Agra’s auctioneering services are continuously expanding and have just added a horse stud auction to its repertoire of stud auctions successfully hosted. The Bronco Quarter Horse Stud auction was hosted by Agra Auctions on Tuesday, 30 May 2017 at 18:00 at the Agra/Bank Windhoek Ring in Windhoek.
“This was a first for us and we will definitely build on this auction to make these special genetics available to Namibia”, said a satisfied Sakkie van der Merwe, owner of Bronco Quarter Horse Stud, after the auction. A total of 15 horses were sold for an average price of N$36 800, with the highest price of N$88 000 paid for a horse from these stables.
The van der Merwe’s started their Quarter Horse breeding business in 2007 when they bought their first American Quarter Horses from the Bronco stud in South Africa and in 2010, they bought the stud from its previous owners, the O’Callaghan family and relocated it to their farm Kuiseb, 60km west of Windhoek. Sakkie, his wife Anri and their 3 daughters, Nina, Zani and Amia are now the proud owners of the stud and passionately strive to achieve their mission to raise American Quarter Horse performance horses for the disciplines of reining, cutting, roping and versatility ranch horses.
Henno Badenhorst, Agra’s auctioneer who conducted the auction expressed his excitement with this auction which was also a first for him as an auctioneer who is experienced in auctioning commercial and stud cattle and game. “The passion and dedication of the van der Merwe’s are visible in the quality of the animals they offered and I hope that Agra Auctions can be to their service again in the future”, he said.
