Agra hosts first digital auction of its kind in Namibia

Agra Limited, in conjunction with SHIFT DX, a digital acceleration company of the BKB Group, hosted the first digital auction of its kind as part of the Hartebeestloop Bonsmara Auction on Friday the 15^th of May 2020. The well-known Dr Joggie Briedenhann, was able to conduct business using the new “normal” approach.  Farmers across Namibia and South Africa were able to purchase good genetic animals via the internet. Considering the current circumstances, Agra deemed it vital to provide access to a digital platform so that the experience of buying and selling livestock can be sufficiently enhanced. Agra Auctions strives to bring supply and demand together, in the most profitable manner for both sellers and buyers. This new innovative channel will contribute to serve the livestock market needs which includes that of accessibility, information, transparency and most importantly, integrity.

One of the successful purchases was made by a South African Farmer who bought the

Bonsmara bull, HART17-0007, was sold for N$400 000, through the online platform.

In spite of the closed border, uncertain economic times and the fact that foreign buyers had

to bid online, all the bulls and heifers were sold at this auction. The auction was held at Briedenhann’ s prestigious farm, Hartebeestloop, near Stampriet and about 30% of the transactions were completed online.

The average price for the bulls at the auction was N$108 000, while the heifers were sold for

an average of N$ 14 200.

The second digital auction will be the Northern Select Auction which will take place on

Thursday, 4 June 2020 at the Agra Bank Windhoek Ring.
