EXCELLENT SMALL STOCK AUCTION AFTER WINDHOEK SHOW

The Windhoek Show small stock auction presented by Agra after the Windhoek Show on Friday, 4 October topped everything for small stock breeders after a successful show. The Boer Goat, Kalahari Red as well as Damara Sheep breeds all held national championships at the show and record prices were paid for top genetics from these breeds at the auction.

The highest ever price in Namibia was paid both for a Damara ram and ewe. The most expensive Damara ram was from Daantjie Jansen van Vuuren and was sold for a Namibian record price of N$30 000 to Deon Vlok from Calvinia in South Africa. Vlok bought another ram from van Vuuren for N$17 000, while the van Vuurens also sold a Damara ram for N$22 000 to Piet Coetzee. In the national championship, animals from this stud were crowned as Junior, Senior and Grand Champion as well as the Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion and achieved an average of N$16 800 for five rams at the auction. Van Vuuren sold three ewes for N$13 000, N$7 000 and N$6 000 respectively. In total, sixteen Damara rams sold for an average of N$10 031 and eleven Damara ewes sold for an average of N$6 773. The most expensive ewe was also bought by Vlok, buying from André Botha for N$14 000.

From the Boer Goat kraal top genetics from the studs of Erik Strauss, Dirk Louw; Willie Coetzee sold for excellent prices. The highest price paid for a Boer Goat ram was N$54 000, which was paid by Johannes Motinga for an elite ram of Erik Strauss, who also sold two more rams for N$22 000 to DH Cloete and N$21 000 to Deon Vlok. Willie Coetzee sold the second most expensive Boer Goat Ram for N$50 000 to NC Horn and Dirk Louw sold a ram from his stud for N$45 000 to AJ Olivier. Boer Goat rams achieved an excellent average price of N$21 750 for fourteen stud rams.Boer Goat ewes also did well at the auction with four elite ewes selling for an average of N$11 625 and a highest price of N$18 000 for a ewe of Dirk Louw, bought by AJ Olivier. Theuns Coetzee, well-known for his superb quality Boer Goat ewes, achieved the highest average for his ewes, selling two for N$12 000 each, one for N$10 000 and one for N$7 500.

Three Kalahari Red rams sold for an average of N$11 333 and a highest price of N$18 000.

The total average price of N$12 308 was achieved for the 71 goats of all breeds, Boer Goat, Kalahari Red and Indigenous goats, male and female. Sheep breeds included Dorper, Gelapper, Van Rooy, Veldmaster and Damara and a total of 72 male and female animals were sold for an average price of N$7 274.
