Agra ProVision will host a farmers’ information day in Otjinene at the Otjinene Farmer’s Union Hall on the 30th of October 2014. Under the theme “basic principles of farming”, producers will learn how to improve their productivity, while ensuring that their farming is economically viable and sustainable.

The farmers’ day will be addressed by our Namibian experts who understand the local conditions and environment. Twaku Kayofa, Communication and PR Officer of Agra ProVision said; “we visited the Otjinene community during the first week of October to do an assessment on the agricultural production sites. During our assessment, we realised that the farming systems are not sustainable. Attention needs to be given to the farmers who have the interest to turn their farms into enterprises. Thus, the event comes at an opportune time for us to share the outcomes of our assessment and teach the participants about sustainable agriculture practices.”

The presentations for the day will focus on: animal nutrition (feeds and licks; balanced diet), animal health (diseases to watch out for, recommended vaccines and basic treatment for sick livestock), rangeland management (how to take care and grow good palatable grass on the rangeland) and maintenance of infrastructure (basics on how to maintain mangas, leaking pipes, water troughs, etc.).Screenshot_2021-05-12_at_12.20.22.png

The event will be hosted as a collaboration between Agra, Feedmaster, Norbrook and the Otjinene office of the Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry – Directorate of Engineering and Extension Services (DEES). The day will be graced by the presence of Hon. Adolphus. K. Kangootui, Councillor of Otjinene Constituency, who will officiate the event. The State Vet from Epukiro will present information on the common diseases identified in the area.

Dagmar Honsbein, General Manager of Agra ProVision, has urged all the various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including representatives from MAWF, members of farmers’ union, livestock producers, academics and the general public to attend this important event.

Agra ProVision offers interactive information sessions every 2 months to facilitate networking and brainstorming among individuals from various sectors in Government and private industry on topics relevant to the agriculture industry. These interactive information sessions are open to members of the public, and those interested are requested to confirm their attendance in advance.
