The Northern Select Breeder Group auction - Fantastic result for Agra’s new integrated Online Auction platform.

The Northern Select Breeder Group auction was held at the Agra/Bank Windhoek Ring in Windhoek on 4 June and it provided yet another fantastic result for Agra’s new integrated Online Auction platform. The ability of our auctions to facilitate both in person, as well as remote access to bidders, not only provided a great opportunity for us to connect with our clients who were far removed from Windhoek, it also yielded another great result with a sales total of N$3,623,970.00 reported.

Agra prides itself on being rooted in our people and so bringing products and services to the people through various innovative platforms is very important to us. With current limitations on travel and restrictions of certain public gatherings affecting many events that are of immense economic importance, Agra Auctions has implemented an innovative new digital platform which allows potential buyers the opportunity to participate in live auctions from the comfort of their home or office. In addition to the capacity crowd inside the Agra/Bank Windhoek Ring arena, a total of 102 viewers attended the auction remotely via the Agra online channels.

All and all there were 116 animals on auction, and of these 20 were sold to online bidders, with nearly N$500,000.00 worth of sales generated through this new remote auction channel. The auction was also streamed live on Facebook. Not only were interested parties logging on from the furthest reaches of Namibia, but there were also interested bidders who participated from the UK, USA and other parts of Africa. This provides a brand new opportunity for Namibian farmers to market their livestock far wider than even before. Incidentally, a number of animals from this auction were purchased by an overseas client whose animals are being exported to Zimbabwe on his behalf.

Celebrating 26 years of success in 2020, the Northern Select Breeder Group was established back in 1994 by a group of cattle farmers from the Grootfontein/Otavi area and this auction again showcased their great quality, with some truly remarkable animals on offer to the public. In total there were 11 Simmentaler bulls, 43 Brahman bulls and 52 Brahman heifers sold. The most expensive bull on the night was an exceptional Brahman that fetched a tidy N$130,000.00. The average price of the bulls was N$46,130.00, while the heifers averaged $22,269.00, with prices ranging from N$16,000 to N$29,000.

Agra would like to thank all of the breeders who participated in this auction: Okabra Brahmans, Harrobi Brahmans, Kupferberg Brahmans, Promatria/Buschbrunnen Simmentalers and Arla Simmentalers. We would also like to extend a special word of thanks to our sponsors, Standard bank and Paratus Telecommunications. And finally, to all of the farmers and the general public who joined us both in person and online, we appreciate your continued support and hope to see all of you again soon.
