Namibia on the south-west coast of Africa is an environmentally harsh country with very erratic rainfall patterns. Our Brahmans are well adapted to the warm subtropical climate and show a high resistance towards parasites. The herd is run under extensive farming practices on the savanna rangelands, and no exceptions are made compared to our commercial cattle.

The Okabra Brahman Stud, from the northern part of Namibia, has established itself since its inception in 1987 as one of the leading and one of the largest Brahman studs in Southern Africa. The Schneider family has been in extensive cattle ranching as its core business since 1913 at Okamutombe near Grootfontein and thus bring along a successful history of sustainable beef production.

The first heifers were purchased in 1987 from the late Reg Hunt; other selected heifers and productive cows were added to lead to a present total of about 350 females running with the bulls. The initial cow herd was based on the well-known American Sugarland Manso bloodlines. Out of these cows a superior family was identified and a progeny bull HBS 88/149 was selected and used for many years to establish a sound cow-herd with constitution and capacity for beef production. This sire (HBS 88/149) leads back to the Sugarland Loxacrata bulls 63 and 115, both sons of Loxey Gamel de Manso 55!

Over the years semen from well-known bulls were used - out of this one outstanding sire line was extensively used, namely from JK Sugar Crata 45 with son JDH Remington Manso 784/2 with progeny JDH Rem Grande Manso 560h and V8 700/3!

Today our herd consists of selected Manso-type Brahmans from both these bloodlines ideally suited for beef production under natural conditions for the export market!

Recently selected semen from well-known South African bulls HS88/2, BOS96/472 (progeny of Mark JAH89/30) and BOS96/439 were used to provide for the next generation of stud bulls. The latter leading again back to the JDH and Sugarland bloodlines!

One of our reliant sires:
TECKELENBURG SIR LOUIS HS94/86
In the 2002 BREEDPLAN analysis of Estimated Breeding Values (EVBs) for all herd sires used in Southern Africa, Sir Louis (see picture left) was the only bull who was a trait leader in four traits. On top of that he is a "curve-bender" with low birth weight EBVs and very high growth values (see table below). Even in the 2005 preplan analysis this bull shows excellent "curve-bender" breeding values.

SEMEN AVAILABLE @ N$ 200/ straw !!
